As the Autumn draws in we can see our new school field maturing. The grass has been cut a number of times and it appears to be growing well. We cannot use the field until the grass is stronger. We hope that this will be next spring after the second growing season has begun. Many students will be looking forward to having a school field at last. This was the first piece of land to be lost when the new building was started some 3 years ago. Football, Cricket, Athletics and many other sports will benefit from such a large area of land.

Having now been in the new school for just over a year and demolition of the old school building complete, it was sad to see the building disappear as it has been Loxford School since 1972 and some staff have been involved with the old building for a great number of years.  But it was time to move on and the new school stands in the grounds of the old school looking every much a 21st century building.  The old school site has now been fully developed to provide a much needed sports facility for the staff, students and local community.  The school now has three multi games surfaces for football, netball, basketball and tennis all of which are floodlit.  Early on in the project, the school secured funding of £500,000 for an artificial football pitch.  This floodlit facility has also been installed and is used by staff and students.  The main sports field has been seeded and drainage installed ready for use in 2012 when a further two football pitches and a cricket wicket will be available for use.  Work is almost finished on a much needed refurbishment of the existing sports hall and swimming pool changing facilities.  The new building has thrown up a few problems but we have been able to solve most of them.  The ground source heat pumps are now working saving us energy costs and helping us do our bit for the planet.  We are getting to grips with the high tech systems that control the new school and as part of a building energy study, we are closely monitoring our new school facilities and continue to look towards lowering our energy consumption.  The old school substation is still on site and we expect this to be removed later this year.

Breaking News
Due to a shortage of primary school places, Loxford School has been given the go ahead to develop part of its site to accommodate primary school students.  The Council have approved the concept and architects have been appointed and several construction companies are preparing to submit plans to the school for the new building although we are still in the planning stage.  The new building is due to be finished mid 2012.  This is an exciting edition to the new school and will be the first all through school in Redbridge.  Pictures of the demolition of the old school, Loxford in the snow and the development of the sports facilities can be found on the website.

A selection of latest photographs can be found in the gallery section including photographs of the new school grounds.

The original Loxford School was built in the early 70's and has had a number of extensions to cope with the rising population in South Ilford. The school has reached the point where further expansion is not an option. The original buildings have reached the end of their life; the infrastructure cannot cope with the demands of a 21st Century School. We have been successful in winning funding from the government to rebuild Loxford School. The new Loxford School is a 40 million pound, Pathfinder Project. It will provide 10 forms of entry for up to 2000 students in South Ilford. The existing school site which now accommodates the school buildings, Sports Hall and swimming pool will be demolished following the building of the new Loxford School on the Playing Fields to the rear.

New Loxford Vision

Building of the new school is well underway. The foundation pads have been cast and the ground floor. Over site concrete is being laid. The steel frame work for the northern learning pod has been erected and the remaining concrete skeleton that will form the building is due to start in November. Building works are well advanced and the building is still on target to open in the spring of 2010.

New Loxford Vision

The Sports Hall and swimming pool will remain and be refurbished and will form part of the new Sports Faculty that will occupy the site left following demolition of the old school. The new Loxford School opened early in 2010 and now provides a state of the art learning village for staff and students working together to produce independent and confident learners, able to make more informed life choices.
